Volume 1 Edition 6

To Our Art Community:

Our president and governor continue to ask us to use hand washing and social distancing to help stop the virus from spreading.

Remember your creativity is not cancelled
Use this time to share your art and talents with an online presence.  Our Communication Committee has expanded our website to include a section devoted to Local Artists.  I encourage you to check it out, and send the committee jpegs of your work and contact information. The committee welcomes your feedback, and would appreciate your suggestions on how to include the writers and the children’s school art on this page.

Art will continue to give meaning to our lives
even in these difficult times.

LA Art Show

Now that you are warmed up, here is another option for loosing yourself in the arts plus an opportunity for  fabulous people watching. It's about 2 hours in length, but very easy to watch in spurts.  I hope you will enjoy this trip as much as we have.

Triangle Art Works  (TAW) newsletter is full of wonderful art opportunities.  You might want to check them out.  There are two that are ready for entry in May and June.

http://www.triangleartworks.org/

This months TAW newsletter provided guidance for applications to the Feds for assistance.  It's very inclusive and seems to offer detailed directions to help you successfully negotiate the application process.

In addition, you might want to check out the TAW Covid-19 Emergency Funding Page

Creative Capital has collected a huge list of sources for grants, loans, and gifts for artists, and art organization for help during this time of the Corvid-19.  It might take a bit to scroll though, but it might be worth your time if you find a source that will help.

We ran this last month.
The information is still viable and needed.
A call to action and a source of resources
Check out the information below.

This is the third time Arts NC has issued a Call to Action this week, which is exactly the same number that we sent out during the entirety of 2019. All of you, our network of passionate arts advocates, are the most valuable resource we have in our work to promote public funding and policy for the arts. As such, we call on you only when the time is right and the need is great. Our need has never been greater.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the devastating financial impact on not only the arts sector, but on the entire global economy, becomes more frighteningly apparent every day. We will need to work with government at every level in the coming weeks and months to find solutions to these seemingly impossible problems, and to support one another in this difficult time.

The US Congress is feverishly working on legislation that will help reduce the spread of the pandemic and provide crucial relief funding to the countless struggling American industries and American families that COVID-19 is leaving in its wake. That is why I ask you to take five minutes to contact your Congressional Representatives today and ask that they designate a minimum of $4 billion dollars, to be distributed through the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as other important measures to help offset losses in the nonprofit arts industry. This is a very important first step to healing the arts and culture sector, as well as our nation, and starting us on the road toward recovery.

Arts North Carolina will continue to monitor developments and provide you with the most pertinent information through email and our COVID-19 Action Center and Resources page. Also, we will be speaking with decision makers and partners at every level of government and across both the state and the nation as we continue our work to be a voice for all the arts, for all the people

Should the need arise for more support, there is CERF - Craft Emergency Releif Fund.
CERF+ was started by artists for artists in the craft community as a grassroots mutual aid effort in 1985 and has since emerged as the leading nonprofit organization that uniquely focuses on safeguarding artists’ livelihoods nationwide. CERF+ serves artists who work in craft disciplines by providing a safety net to support strong and sustainable careers. Our core services are education programs, advocacy, network building and emergency relief.

Another resource for artists in need - Americans for the Arts serves, advances, and leads the network of organizations and individuals who cultivate, promote, sustain, and support the arts in America. Founded in 1960, Americans for the Arts is the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education.

Artist Trust

So many individuals and organizations, including Artist Trust, are working hard to maintain support for artists during this difficult time of COVID-19. We are inspired by all that has been done to assist our artistic communities! If you’re looking for a way to help, we’ve gathered some ideas on how you can join us:

  • If you have tickets to a canceled event or are avoiding public spaces, consider donating the price of a ticket to the artists involved, instead of asking for a refund
  • Buy art, music, or books online directly from the artist selling their work
  • Share posts about artist-centric fundraisers, resources, and other support to help create a wider audience
  • Consider donating to artists – through organizations, fundraisers, or directly to an individual
  • Reach out to artist friends to see how they are doing – emotional support is also important
  • Remember to always tip service workers in theaters, museum cafés, music venues etc.
  • Encourage friends or family who are working from home or self-quarantining to read something by your favorite local author
  • Follow artists on social media and share their work
  • Buy albums or merch from your favorite local bands and request their songs on radio stations
  • Share resources for artists – we have an ongoing list you can refer to: https://artisttrust.org/covid-19-resources-list/
Till next month, keep washing your hands and maintain your social distance.  If you need the recipe for home made hand sanitizer, you can click on this link:
